Genaro Proscia, the son of Italian immigrants, who came to America in 1904, was born on October 12, 1917, in New York. He was one of nine children.

At the time of Genaro's birth, his father, Francesco or Frank Proscia, was 37 and his mother, Giovannia, also known as Jennie, Mattiae-Proscia, was 34.

Genaro's father was born in the town of Binetto which is a commune in the province of Bari, in the Apulia (Puglia) region of Italy. His mother too was born in the province of Bari, Italy.

Gigi, as he was fondly known to his family and friends, married Felicia Theresa "Fanny" Fariello. Together they had a son born in 1942.

He worked as a route salesman for many years for Stella D'Oro in the Bronx. He retired from Stella D'Oro at the age of 62, but sadly shortly thereafter was diagnosed with lung cancer which spread to his brain.

Gigi was called home to rest on April 1, 1981, in Bronx, New York, at the age of 63.

Gigi was survived by his loving wife Fanny and beloved son Robert Proscia, and his wife Marie, cherished grandchildren, Robert Jr. and Michelle "Missy" Proscia, all of the Bronx, and his dear siblings.

He was laid to rest in St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx, New York.
