He attended the first meeting of the Amelia County Medical Society in July 1853.
He was an assistant surgeon and surgeon on 13 Sept 1861.
He was in the hospital at least twice during the War. (at Cuthbert and Covington, GA.)
He was promoted to surgeon on 14 Oct 1862.

William and Rebecca moved to "Glenmore", their home in Amelia County, VA. around 1860.

"Glenmore" plantation was near the mouth of Flat Creek on the Appomattox River.
(Other families who lived there were Finney and Hardaway)

Rebecca was listed as a Widow on the 1880 Census in Farmville, Prince Edward County, VA.
William was on the 1870 Census in that same place so he died between 1870 and 1880.
