Died: Oct. 12, 2008

Harold Laws, 72, of the Greystone community, died Sunday at Life Care Center of Greeneville after a brief battle with cancer.

Mr. Laws worked for a number of years with the Greeneville Light & Power System and later had jobs in Arizona and North Carolina.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served in Okinawa, Japan, during the Korean war.

Mr. Laws was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, where he "faithfully" attended as long as his health permitted.

His family states, "He was an avid sportsman and will long be remembered by his golfing, bowling, and hunting friends."

Survivors include a daughter: Cindi Laws of Afton; a son: Danny Laws of Greeneville; four grandsons: Bandy Thompson and Elijah Laws, both of Greeneville, and Mikey Alyanakian and Eric Alyanakian, both of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister: Agnes Harrison of Greeneville; a sister-in-law: Nancy Laws of Greeneville; his special nieces and nephews and their spouses: Sharon Mercer, Kenny and Kathy Hopson, Rennie Hopson, Cathy Gentry, Denny and Joyce Hopson, Ricky Harrison, Robin Harrison, Rae and Jewel Laws, Desi Mercer, Drew Mercer, Dusty Hopson, Dylan Hopson, Heath and Brenda Hopson, Heath Hopson Jr., Kelli Harrison, Jimmy Laws, and Tyler Laws; a special aunt: Fay Jones of Greeneville; and several special cousins.

He was a son of the late Blumey and Claudia Combs Laws and was preceded in death by a sister: Edith Hopson; and a brother: Mickey Laws.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kiser Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Gethsemane UM Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ralph Horak and the Rev. Jerry Hopson will officiate.

Family and friends will meet at 1 o'clock at the funeral home to go in procession to the church.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Combs, Jim Cutshaw, Karl Deal, Archie Fannon, Hughford Fincher, Jim Phillips, Tom Springfield, and Max Woody.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Brad Strange, Dr. John Boys, Dr. Dharmen Patel, Steve Dearstone, Charlie Gas, Ronald "Lum" Jennings, Jerry Jones, Eddie House, Roger Hipps, Rex Hopson, Rick Maupin, the members of Gethsemane UM Church, all of his hunting, golfing, and bowling friends; and his special friends and neighbors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123-1718, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
