Madison worked as a house painter before and after serving in the Civil War. At some point in the late 1890's Madison chose to leave his wife and family and head out for "parts unknown". I have not been able to locate him in any censuses for the years 1900 through 1910. He was admitted into Sawtelle National Home for Disabled Soldiers in November 1910. His wife Helen died in February 1913 and in January 1914 when Minerva Miller died Madison is listed as her husband on her burial record at Los Angeles National Cemetery. Both Madison and Minerva share a combined gravestone.
