Henry Eshleman (my great- grandfather) was born in July 1819 in Lancaster, Pennslyvania, the son of Jacob & Catharine (Bethley) Eshleman.

On 28 September 1848 in Tipton, Indiana, he married Elizabeth Webbert, the daughter of David Ritzer Webbert & his wife, Mary Whisler.

Being of Mennonite descent, they were both from that hardy people known as the "Pennsylvania Dutch". Henry was of Swiss/German descent, while Elizabeth's family were from Germany.

Together they had thirteen children, 11 born in Indiana, and 2 born in Missouri:

Theodore Eshleman - (1849-1873)
Catharine Eshleman Vann - (1850-1873)
Viola Eshleman - (1855-ca.1860)
Irissa Eshleman - (1852-1873)
Joseph Eshleman - (1853-1872)
John Eshleman - (1857-1919)
Mary Eshleman Weathers - (1859-1947)
Margaret Eshleman Eck - (1861-1943)
Martha Eshleman Stafford - (1864-1946)
William Eshleman - (1866-1957)
Harriet Eshleman - (1867-1873)
Minnie Eshleman Shannon - (1872-1920)
Cora Eshleman Clark - 1874-1953

The family moved from Indiana to Jasper County, Missouri, where in about 1870 Henry, who was a carpenter as well as a farmer, built a large house on land they had homesteaded.

In the winter of 1872-1873 a small pox epidemic swept through their family. Five of their children (Theodore, Catharine, Irissa Jane, Joseph, & Harriet), their son-in-law, George William Vann, and one-year-old grandson, Willie all died as a result. They were all buried here at Weaver Cemetery.

Henry Eshleman died at the age of 78 on 31 July 1897.
