Actress. She was best known to film viewers as the love interest to Marlon Brando's character in the 1957 film "Sayonara." During the Second World War, her family was sent to an internment camp outside Phoenix, Arizona. In 1957, she was chosen to play the lead female character Hana-ogi in the film "Sayonara" after Audrey Hepburn turned it down. She made her acting debut in the film and critics gave her great reviews for her performance. She went on to appear in numerous films during her career such as "Hell to Eternity," (1960) "The Art of Love," (1965) "Walk Don't Run," (1966) "Paper Tiger," (1975), and "The Challenge." (1982) In 1959, she made her television debut on the series "Hawaiian Eye." She later appeared in such series as "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "The F.B.I.," and "The Wild Wild West." She also appeared in the epic television miniseries "Shogun" in 1980.
