Deacon Eugene Andrew Claiborne, Sr. was born to the late Fred Claiborne and Mary Mason Claiborne on March 2, 1926. Deacon Claiborne was united in holy matrimony to the late Bettie Dollie Jones Claiborne in 1950 and to this union was born on son, Eugene, Jr.

Deacon Claiborne was educated in the Dinwiddie County School System and graduated for the Dinwiddie Training School (McKinney, VA.) Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army, he attended Virginia State College, where he received a degree in Industrial Arts, specializing in Carpentry.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Eugene (Annette) Claiborne, Jr; three grandchildren, Richelle Claiborne (Charlottesville, VA), Justine Jordan (Richmond, VA.) and Eugene Claiborne, III (Charlottesville, VA); great granddaughter, Cheyenne Claiborne (Charlottesville, VA); sister-in-law, Martha Jones Patterson (Chicago, IL); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
