Professional Football Player. He played at the position of halfback for seven seasons (1946 to 1952) in the Canadian Football League with the Regina Roughriders and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Born Michael Paul Yakymyk in Regina, Saskatchewan, he attended high school locally and then went on to college where he played football collegiately with the Regina Bombers Jrs. football team. After graduating from college, he served his country during World War II. Following the war, he returned home to Canada and was signed to a contract with the Canadian Football League and he played for both the Regina Roughriders (1946 to 1949) and the Saskatchewan Roughriders (1948 to 1952). One of the highlights of his career was playing in the 39th Grey Cup Championship Game against the Ottawa Rough Riders on November 25, 1951, at the Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Ontario. Unfortunately, the Saskatchewan Roughriders lost to the Ottawa Rough Riders in a 21-14 victory in front of some 27, 341 spectators. Following the 1952 season, he was released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. His Canadian Football League career consisted of some 61 games played, 1 game started, 1 rushing touchdown, catching 1 pass for 4 yards, 1 receiving touchdown, running for 15 yards on 2 attempts, and 10 points. He spent his final years working, raising his family, and spending time with his friends. He passed away in his native Regina, Saskatchewan, two weeks before his 93rd birthday.
