Natalina Intelisano was born June 27, 1930, in Calatabiano, Sicily, Italy, to Rosario Intelisano and Rosa Vecchio. She was the oldest of 3 children, after her parents' firstborn, Natala, died at the age of 6 months, in 1928. Natalina went to school and studied under a master seamstress in Calatabiano.
On February 7, 1948, she married a very handsome and persistent young man, Biagio LaRocca. Natalina and their eldest daughter, Mellina LaRocca, travelled to the United States in December 1949, where they joined Biagio to begin a new and more prosperous life in the land of opportunity for their family. You might even say that Natalina was quite a young pioneer woman for that point in time... She was very young and yet traveled to a new country where she knew no one, couldn't speak the language and had a brand new family. Natalina and Biagio were blessed with three more children in Syracuse, New York: Rosa (Jerry) Day, Biagio (Audrey) LaRocca III and Natalie (Brian) Barthelow.
While studying to learn English and for her US citizenship, Natalina worked making purses at a designer handbag factory and later sewed custom men's suits at a factory in Syracuse. Anyone that knew Natalina admired the deep kindness of her heart and her willingness to help anyone in need. Although she worked full time, her first and highest priority was always her family... She adored her 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, but, most of all, they all adored her!
Natalina and Biagio celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on February 7, 2018. Biagio passed away on November 12, 2018, and just an year later, on December 3, 2019, they started a new life together.
