Edward Laws was born in Lee County, Virginia, on July 22, 1927. Ed died on Friday, March 18, 2016, at the age of 88.
Ed attended school in Virginia and after graduation, entered the United States Army. Ed served his country honorably and proudly during World War II, serving in Germany.
Ed married Billie J. Smith on July 6, 1949. The couple moved to Monroe following his honorable discharge from the Army.
Ed worked for many years for McClouth Steel as an electrician and electric instrument precisionist, from which he retired.
He was active in the Masons and served as secretary for what is now Advantage One Credit Union. He enjoyed golf and gardening. Ed will be remembered as a gentle, quiet man who had a great love for his family.
Ed is survived by his wife of 66 years, Billie, three children: Sereta S. (Thomas) Ready of Monroe, Leslie "Missy" (Michael Quandt) Sieb of Monroe and Sean E. Laws of New Jersey, four grandchildren: Sean T. Ready, Caitlin A. B. Ready, Brandon A. (Heather) Sieb and Brock M, Sieb and two great grandchildren: Adelyn Sieb and Brynley Sieb. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew E. Sieb.
A private memorial service will be held by the family.
