A Pennsylvania teenager who was eight months pregnant died Saturday after shoveling snow outside her home during the monster blizzard that slammed the East Coast.

Relatives of Briahna Gerloff, 18, said she insisted on shoveling the family's Pottstown home in the morning, brushing off warnings about the wicked weather, according to NBC Philadelphia.

Once she finished her work, she came back inside around 9 a.m., police said. Soon afterward, her younger brother found her in the kitchen, unresponsive, and called 911.

Gerloff could not be revived. Her expected daughter, Kayliana, died with her.

The soon-to-be mom was just days away from having her first daughter, according to a friend who spoke with her the night before her death.

"She was excited to be a mom," Ava Cruz told Philly.com.

"She told me she had scheduled her C-section for Feb. 4."

Cruz set up a GoFundMe page, hoping to raise $5,000 to cover funeral costs. The page said that Gerloff's mother died three years ago.

The teen was working at a Friendly's restaurant at the time of her death, according to her Facebook page. She also served as a junior firefighter for the Phillies Fire Company, which honored her on its Facebook page.

"Please keep Briahna, her unborn daughter Kayliana, family and friends in your thoughts as we mourn her loss," the company wrote.

The cause of death has not been determined. But Gerloff's grieving loved ones said she suffered from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a heart condition that is rarely diagnosed and rarely fatal. Studies say it is found in 3% or less of the population.

"Her family now has to deal with all the emotional stress of losing Briahna & Kayliana, but in two short months it will be three years since Briahna's mother passed away. They also have to deal with financial stress including funeral costs," the friend wrote.

A candlight vigil is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. on 14 E. Second Street in Pottstown.

At least 37 deaths across 13 states have been connected to the blizzard, which shut down major cities and ravaged small towns all through the East Coast. The death toll includes a 23-year-old New Jersey woman and her 1-year-old son, who died from carbon monoxide poisoning while running a snowbound car to keep warm.
