Johann, "John" and his wife, Margaret, and three children, Jacob, Sophia, and Peter, arrived in the United States on the Ship Silesia, from Germany, on 22 May of 1880.

At this time, war was breaking out, and John and many other Tiedemans left the country.

John made his living at the Packing houses, as a Meat Cutter. They lived in the Fish Camps, along the Floyd River. Margaret was a domestic servant.
Sophia became pregnant with My Grandmother, Paulina, And Margaret was her caretaker, along with Uncle Pete. Jacob the eldest son, left Sioux City and settled in Lancaster County, Nebraska. Uncle Jacob was never mentioned to her..or at least she never mentioned him to my Mother. We know of no known correspondence between him and the family.
Why did Jacob leave the family and go South? DNA has confirmed the family connections.
