A student at Hampden-Sydney College ,left to enlisted in the Goochland Light Dragoons,Company F,wounded in battle.
Son of Thomas Anderson Hughes and Mary Eldridge Highes.
In 1867 he married Ann Beverly Perkins four children by this wife.
Married second wife Rebekah Davies Poe of Richmond,in 1894,a child from this marriage,Lina Brooke Hughes.
A vestryman at St.John's.
Virginia House of Delegates,1914.
Overseer of bridges for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
