Born in Yorkshire England and a descendant of the Dukes of York. Came from England in 1731 to Fredericksburg, Spotslvania Co., Virginia. She had many children and is known to have 4 boys who all became ministers.

Married Guillaume de Tonnelier the 2nd. who changed his name to William Tunnell Jr.

She died and in burried on her sons farm with her grandson.

More information can be found about this family in the book: Notable Southern Families -Vol.III--Published in 1926. Compiled by Miss Lucy Ball.

RESEARCH NOTE: The old stories regarding Ann Howard first appear in "Notable Southern Families Vol. 3" in the 1920 and, despite exhaustive searches, are not supported by any evidence. As was often the case with family genealogies, people created fantasy stories to make families sound more interesting. As there are earlier Tunnell/Howard family marriages in the colonies, it is likely, but not fact, that both Ann and William were born in the colonies. Either way, our Ann was not a "lady" in the aristocratic sense.
