Body Of Nathan Deaton, 80 Years of Age, Was Found

The body of Nathan Deaton, 80 years of age, was found dead in the woods in the Long Creek section of Oconee on Tuesday, December 31st, last. Mr. Deaton had lived in that neighborhood for a life time, and for a long time had roomed at his own home, but took his meals with his nephew, Burt Deaton, about a mile and a quarter distant from his home.
He left there Sunday, December 29th, after supper carrying a light, on his way to his room. Not returning Monday for breakfast or dinner, it was feared something had happened, and a search was begun for him, but no trace was found. Tuesday about 20 joined in the search, and his body was discovered about 11 o'clock, lying on a steep hillside. He had been dead some time. An inquest was held Wednesday at 11 o'clock, and it was ascertained that he came to his death from natural causes. The remains were buried Wednesday evening at the Deaton burying ground. The deceased was a brother of Capt. Wm. Deaton, who died a year or more ago. He was a good citizen and upright man, and will be greatly missed from his community.
