Kelly grew up in Caldwell, Idaho, attending school in the Caldwell School District from kindergarten through high school. He then attended Boise State University, where he was involved with the football program. After four years, he returned home to Caldwell, where he worked as a meat cutter at Super Save Grocery Market for several years. He then returned to BSU where he received his A.A. degree in electronics. He went to work for Micron Technology Inc. and had worked there for 10 years at the time of his death. For the past year and one-half, Kelly had been working on the completion of his B.A. degree in computer technology with the University of Phoenix on-line. Kelly enjoyed the challenges of his work and completing his education. Kelly had a heart as big as he was, and especially enjoyed helping and sharing with family and friends in any way that was available to him. He had many friends, both from his work and school days.
