Mary N. Witt Parton Cannon, who would have celebrated her 88th birthday on Oct. 26, died Tuesday morning at Laughlin Health Care Center.

She retired from the nursing profession and North American Philips after 31 years of service.

Mrs. Cannon was of the Free Will Baptist faith and attended Wayside Free Will Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

She was an active member of The Ladies Aid of the church and was involved in many church activities.

She always found time to visit and volunteer her time to help others.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Glenna and Arthur Walters of Greeneville; a son and daughter-in-law: Nick and Anita Cannon of Chuckey; grandchildren: Steve and Ginger Walters, Donna and Keith Housewright, and Tyler Cannon; three great-grandchildren: Jessica Larkin, Dustin Wilhoit, and Seth Wilhoit; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Geraldine Fillers, Sally Cannon, Jeanette GeFellers, Keith Chandler, and Bertha Parton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was the daughter of the late Smith and Bessie Clowers Witt and was preceded in death by her first and second husbands: Everette Parton and the Rev. Glenn Cannon; and a sister: Lula Mae Inscore.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service will follow visitation at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel.

The Rev. Leonard Cutshaw and Nick Cannon will officiate.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.

It is requested that family and friends who would like to join the family for the committal service meet at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the committal service.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Swatzell, Steve Walters, Keith Housewright, Dustin Wilhoit, Seth Wilhoit, and Tyler Cannon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lanny Cannon, Junior Ward, Teddy Lawing, her special friends at Wayside Free Will Baptist Church, and the staffs and employees of Laughlin Health Care Center and Caris Health Care.
