MOTHER AND CHILDREN ARE BURNED TO DEATH; Mother and Three Children Burned to Death in Their Dare County Home -- Elizabeth City, Nov. 8 - A mother and her three children were burned to death today in a fire which destroyed their Dare County home.

The dead are Mrs. Ella Barnett, 21, her two small children, Armeta [should be Almedia], 4, and Louise [should be Lottie], two months, and her son Howard, 4. Mrs. Barnett and the children were alone in her father-in-law's home when it caught fire early today.

Her husband, Selton [should be Seldon] and his father, Robert Barnett [should be John], fisherman, were away on a cruise.

Neighbors said Mrs. Barnett came to their home at 4 a.m. carrying her baby and called to them for aid. She returned to the scene of the fire immediately and, still carrying the baby, rushed into the house in an effort to save the two older children. She never returned. Her charred body and those of her children were removed from the ashes of the home hours later. The baby was still clutched tightly in her arms.
