ROSSON, BARBARA ZAPP - age 92, entered her Heavenly Home September 22, 2010. Mrs. Rosson was born in Philadelphia, PA to Louis Milton Zapp and Margaret Rinn Zapp. When she was 8 years old, her family moved to Detroit, Michigan. She earned a BA degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1940 and taught school for a short period of time. She obtained a secretarial certificate from a business school in Chicago, Illinois, and became employed by the Ashland Oil Company in Ashland, Ky. While employed there she met her husband, John R. Rosson, Sr., to whom she was married for 46 years, after meeting him on a blind date. While residing in Ashland, she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, served as an Elder, and was appointed as Presbyterial President of Transylvania Union Presbytery in Kentucky. She also taught Sunday School, and served as hospital volunteer. Mr. and Mrs. Rosson relocated from Ashland, KY To Knoxville, TN In 1986 after he retired from the position of Personnel Director of Ashland Oil Company. In Knoxville, she and her husband became active members of Second Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association where she held various positions and was involved in numerous committees and sang in the Church Choir. She had a passion for music and bridge which she passed on to her son and her passion for baking and graciousness, she passed on to her daughter. She loved to talk about politics and wrote her Congressman about issues that concerned her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John R. Rosson, Sr. in 1988, and beloved brothers Robert L. Zapp and George M. Zapp. She is survived by her 2 children, John R. Rosson, Jr. and Harriet Rosson Starkey and her husband R. Wayne Starkey; her grandchildren John R. Rosson, lll, Samuel Hunt Rosson, Hannah Elizabeth Rosson, Margaret Rosson Starkey, and Nathan Pomeroy Starkey, niece Donna Howell Stevens, nephews: David Howell, Robert Zapp, Philip Zapp, David Zapp, and George Zapp. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Second Presbyterian Church Knoxville, 2829 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 from 2-4 PM, with a Memorial Service to follow at 4 PM. Graveside service will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN 37701. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry at Second Presbyterian Church or the Parish Nurse Fund at Second Presbyterian Church.
