Ray Bourne, 71, a 40-year resident of Greeneville, died Tuesday after an extended illness.

He was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church.

Mr. Bourne was a retired employee of Philips Consumer Electronics Co.

He was graduated from the University of
Tennessee and the Army Language School in Monterey, Calif.

Mr. Bourne was a veteran of the Korean War.
Those close to him knew him as a devoted husband and father, whose interests included theology, history, and gardening. The family said he will be sadly missed by those who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years: Georgia Ruth Bourne; two sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Karyn Bourne of Mooresburg and Michael and Susan Bourne of Chattanooga; a daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Joe Moore of Bristol, Va.; two grandchildren: Katheryn Bourne and Matthew Bourne; two sisters: Brenda Weeks of Maryland and Glenda Mayhew of Florida; a sister-in-law: Catherine Bourne of West Virginia; several special nieces and nephews; and a special uncle: Henry Bourne of Wytheville, Va.

He was a son of the late Raymond and Nina Bourne of Grayson County, Va., and was preceded in death by a brother: George Bourne.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at St. James Episcopal Church.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at the church with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Rowland Clarkson will officiate.

Active pallbearers will be Jim Eagle, Gary Flanagan, Sid Hubbard, John Jones Jr., Phil Maupin, Joe Moore, David Reynolds, and Drew Reynolds.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Thomas Beckner, Andy Garrabrant, John M. Jones, Chuck Peters, Ed Stewart, and Dr. Robert Strimer.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church designated for the church's outreach program.
