Alaska Weaver Carey died peacefully early a.m. at the age of 68. She was surrounded by her loving daughter, Mildred Williams of Valparaiso, Indiana. She was a long-standing member of Glenwood Baptist Church and The Mission. She enjoyed sowing and making her children, grandchildren, and her friends clothing. She also enjoyed making homemade quilts for her family and her friends. She always looked forwards to the Springtime, as she enjoyed going out in the sunshine, digging around in the dirt and planting for a plentiful and beautiful harvest in which she canned vegetables and fruits for the winter. This was her daily life for living as she would spend hours reading the bible, praying, humming, and singing to our God. She was a great teacher who spent quality time with her children, grandchildren, her church family, as she was a stranger to no one. She was a strong and faithful woman, never wavering in her true convictions and she brought much wisdom and joy to all who knew her. She was what I would refer to the, "Proverb Woman. "I have met very few that can measure up to her. Survivors: son, Kenneth Carey, Knoxville; daughters, Mildred, (Bill) Williams, Valparaiso, Indiana, Wilma (Richard) Clark, Elizabethton, Carolyn (Jim) Haines, Haggertown, MD.; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday at the Weaver Chapel, Rev. Charles M. Sharits officiating. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Weaver Funeral Home.
