Former Oakdale High School football Coach Jim Gilbert made a goal line stand against his toughest foe.
A graveside Service was conducted Monday, Jan.3,2000 at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.
Survivors include his Wife Kathy Gilbert of Oakdale, step-Sons, Steven and Donald of Oakdale, a brother Norman Carl and His Mother Margaret Gilbert, and five Grandchildren.
Remembrances may be made to Oakdale High School Boosters or Leukemia Society of America.
The longtime former football Coach and special Education Teacher at OHS was on Medical leave to fight the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia .
Friends,students and co workers expressed sorrow at Jimmie's passing.
The student body advisor, a Hystory Teacher and athletic Director at OHS , recollected how he coached Gilbert in Football in the early 60's.He referred to him as a real competitor who always gave his best effort.
That trademark continued in his career as a player , Teacher and a Coach and a cattle Rancher, I hold him in high esteem.
He was the head Coach at OHS for four Valley Oak League varsity championships.
He was a cattle rancher in addition to working as a special Education Teacher for 30 years.
He did a tremendous amount of work for the School and sports.
Even with cancer, Jim Gilbert was still active at his ranch.

He was a member of the California Teachers Associations and North American Limousine Foundation.
