Born Floyd Chrisman on Oct. 1, 1910 in Merritt, Illinois to Minnie Eva Claywell Chrisman and Charles Coultas Chrisman.

His parent divorced and later she married William Douglas Martin of Little Rock, Arkansas

In 1921, his name was changed to Floyd Martin when he was adopted by his step father William D. Martin.

Floyd was a truck driver for a local newspaper in Springfield, Illinois, served in the United States Navy and later worked for Fluor Corp. building cooling towers all over the United States. While working in Tennessee he met Eleanor Manning. They married, had two daughters, Mary and Martha, and made their home in Longview, Texas, where he drove a truck for Bell Transport. If Floyd was not driving his truck, you could find him at Caddo Lake in Jefferson, Texas, fishing. Floyd loved to fish. We also had many pet squirrels that came to our home to eat pecans. He loved animals just like his mother and was always bringing home stray dogs. Some we kept and some of them he found a new forever homes. It a trait that he passed on to his two girls and on to his grand children.

In 1952 the family moved from Longview to James, Texas (now called Diana) a small country town north of Longview.

Floyd died on Monday, December 9, 1974 in Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas. He was only 64 years old.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor and two daughters, Mary Frances Jones of South Park, Pennsylvania and Martha Martin and husband Chester Lee Martin Jr. of Diana, Texas. Also surviving are grandsons, Clinton Martin Jones, Stephen Craig Martin and Dallas Willian Jones and step father Roscoe Oliver Bandy who was his mothers 3rd husband.
His service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the Chapel of Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer, Texas. Burial was in Mattox Cemetery in Diana, Upshur County, Texas.
