Louisa Lee Hulme was a teacher of young children at the Holy Trinity School. She met her death aged 64 in what came to be called the Freckleton Disaster.
American pilots were testing a plane when a sudden storm came up and the plane was struck by lightning. It crashed on the village of Freckleton, hitting part of the school and a nearby restaurant or snackbar. All but 3 of the preschool/kindergarten age (infants) children were killed, and both Louisa Hulme and another teacher, Jenny Hall. Louisa Hulme was conveyed to the U.S.A. Military Hospital, Warton where she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
