Born on August 5, 1947, in Columbus, Betsy was the daughter of Bob and Grace Ingram Caldwell. She grew up in Columbus, and following graduation from high school, she attended MUW. After Doug and Betsy married, they lived in Atlanta, where Doug attended Georgia Tech. After graduation, they moved to Jackson.
Betsy exemplified the Christian faith through a life of service to others. John 15: 12-13 says, "Love each other as I have loved you, Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friend." She willingly and lovingly shared her gifts of hospitality, friendliness and encouragement with her family and her many friends. Betsy will be remembered for her genuine interest in others, her outgoing personality and her contagious smile.
Betsy is survived by her devoted husband, Doug; her three children: Daphne Clark and her husband James; T and his wife Hayes; Dottie Grubbs and her husband Clay; and nine grandchildren, all of Jackson; her mother, Grace Caldwell, her brother Bobby Caldwell of Columbus; her sisters Dottie Tidwell of Atlanta and Carol Smith of Tampa, Florida; her sister-in-law, Robin Fuller of Atlanta; and her brother-in-law, Richard Dale of Houston. Her father, Bob Caldwell, of Columbus preceded her in death.
Her family is so thankful for the many friends who have helped, supported and loved them through Betsy's battle with cancer. Betsy's faith in Jesus Christ enabled her to persevere by His strength and to reflect to others "the peace of God which surpasses all understanding" (Philippians 4:7). Her battle is now over, and she is more alive than ever in the presence of the Risen Lord.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Ministries, Neighborhood Christian Center or Mendenhall Ministries.
