Verna Murphy, 94, a resident of Madison Manor in Richmond, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009 at the Compassionate Care Center after a short illness. She was born May 28, 1915 in Estill County, the daughter of the late Silas and Emmaline Lovins Carpenter. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was a member of the South Irvine Pentecostal Church of God where she was also a member of the Ladies Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Murphy; three sons, Garnie B. Murphy, Arthur J. Murphy and Virgil Franklin Murphy; four sisters, Neely Logston, Nancy Ann Carpenter, Zanie Carpenter and Lucy Carpenter; four brothers, Frank, Virgil, Emmory and Bill Carpenter; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Corena Murphy of California, and Zelma R. Tingle of Georgetown; two sons, Clarence Murphy Jr. of Florida, and Edward Lee Murphy of Richmond; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. at the South Irvine Pentecostal Church of God by Bro. Paul Arvin with burial at the South Irvine Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eugene Miller, Richard Gault, Wade Logsdon, Marshall Kirby, Jeff Elliott and Charles Babb.
