Joe Alcott came to Colby, Ks., in December of 1886 and decided to locate there and go into the Hardware business. He erected a store building that he and his wife occupied for thirty nine years. When Joe got things arranged so the family could live with some degree of comfort, his wife Lillian, and two boys, Harry and Ray came to Oberlin, and then staged to Colby in March of 1887. Joe passed away in 1901, but Lillian continued the business under the name of J. Alcott, until 1925.
