My Greatgrandfather...

For 10 years he worked and saved his money and at age 24 bought a farm near Caribou, Maine. On December 14, 1883 he married 20 year old Jennie Margaret Ingraham. There were 10 children born to this union....

As nearly as I have been able to find out, Elmer owned and cleared approximately 160 acres, which they owned until 1912 when the family sold out and moved to Idaho.

Apparently he was quite prosperous as he had the money for oxen and a wagon.

After the harvest was over he'd cut wood and make maple syrup during the winter for extra money.

In 1880 Elmer donated land where the school house was built. Although it is not used for educational purposes today, it is still known as "The Henderson School". It sat in a grove of trees down the road from the Henderson house. Today the building is used by the County Road Dept. as a storage/maintenance building.

Elmer was very musical. In 1885 he bought an organ and took lessons. He also directed music at the school for a local singing group, as well as for the Grange, community picnics, church and home recreation. He also taught daughters Alta and Effie piano lessons.

His son's Aubrey and Odber left Maine in 1908 and after a circuitous route landed in Idaho. In 1912 Elmer came out to visit. He had asthma and found that the dry Idaho weather made him feel much better. He went back to Maine, sold the farm and moved the family to Twin Falls, Idaho. Since the Hendersons left Maine in 1912, the home property has been owned by 2 or 3 owners, but principally by the Malm Family and has been handed down thru their generations.
