Charlene Carter, age 76 of Mansfield, TN, died Thursday August 10, 2017, at her residence in Mansfield, TN.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paris, TN. She was the former owner of C & S Wallpaper, and also formerly worked at Paris Florist. In her earlier years, she was a great seamstress who enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing things of all kinds. She also enjoyed gardening and was known to have a “green thumb.” In her latter years, she developed a love for genealogy, and became very active in the Henry County Archive & Genealogy Library. She was also the caretaker of Shiloh Cemetery in Mansfield, TN, and was very involved with the cemetery's archives and history. She was a very caring person, who had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and her special puppy dog, Otis.

She was born in February 17, 1941, in Union City, TN, to the late Thomas Herbert Elmer and the late Edna Walker Elmer.

She was married December 19, 1960, to Larry Eulan Carter, who preceded her in death on March 20, 1994.

She is survived by her two sons, Tim Carter of Paris, and Tony (Nancy) Carter of Hopkinsville, KY; one brother, Roy Elmer of Virginia; six grandchildren, Lesley (Brian) McKeon of Clearwater Beach, FL, Sophie Carter of Paris, TN, Will Carter of Paris, TN, Joe (Cora) Carter of Hopkinsville, KY, Jake Carter of Hopkinsville, KY, and Jon Carter of Hopkinsville, KY; and her special puppy dog, Otis.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, TN. The body is to be cremated. Memorial visitation will be Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church Paris, TN, with a memorial service to begin at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church. Joe Hansen and Gary Collier will officiate.
