Lt. Norman MacFarland Neblett, son of Dr. Sterling Neblett and Ann Smith MacFarland, was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia June 8, 1839. He enlisted Feb. 5, 1862 in Company B, 3rd Virginia Artillery (a local defense military unit where he served as a Lt.). The Confederate Army High Command made this unit a regular regiment in the Army dispite the members of the regiment strong protest. Norman Neblett enlisted on July 20, 1862 in Company F, 9th Virginia Cavalry. He was captured at Boonsboro, Maryland on September 15, 1862 and was exchanged at Williamsport, Maryland on Nov. 10, 1862. He was made Lt. of Company F, 9th Virginia Cavalry in March 1863. Norman was captured again at Namozine Church on April 3, 1865 and was held as a Prisoner of War at Johnson's Island, Sandusky, Ohio where he was released on June 19, 1865. He died on Oct. 13, 1911.
