Born in Goochland County, Virginia, 1787 (Payne Family Genealogy Book in Goochland Historical Society Office gives the date of birth as Jan. 17, 1784). Served in the U. S. Army for 40 years. Wounded at Pala Alta, Mexico. Died in 1862 at age 75.
