-----------------------------------
Local Young Man, Living in New Jersey, Was Visiting Relatives
-------------------------------------------------------------
Raymond Palmer, 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Palmer, 1702 South Jackson street, a resident of Bloomfield, New Jersey, drowned Sunday afternoon while bathing near Schenectady, New York, according to a message recieved by the parents late Sunday afternoon. On reciept of the telegraph message, Mr. Palmer phoned to Schenectady to learn particulars of the tragedy.

The body will be returned here for burial, according to word received late yesterday. It will arrive in Indianapolis late Wednesday and will be met by a representative of the Endsley funeral directors and taken to the parents' home, 1702 South Jackson street.

Together with his wife and two year old son, he was spending his vacation at the home of wife's parents. Sunday he was at Blue Island, a vacation resort near there and is reported as having dived from a float which bathers were using as a platform. The water was a dozen feet deep at that point. He came to the surface once and then sank and was beneath the surface of the water for nearly a half hour before the body was recovered. Pulmoter squads worked frantically over him to revive him.

Raymond Cline Palmer, son of Fred L. and Stella (Cline) Palmer, was born July 9, 1909 at Mooresville, Indiana.

At the age of four he moved with his parents to Frankfort. He attended the grade schools and high school from which he graduated in 1927. In the fall of 1927 he entered Purdue University as an electrical engineer student. In 1931 he was graduated from the university with honors. In January 1932 he entered the General Electric Test School at Schenectady, N.Y. In the fall of 1932 he specialized in air conditioning and finished his test course in the spring of 1933. Following that he was called to Stanford, Conn., where he was employed by the Schwerin Electrical Co., and remained in that employ until the fall of 1936, having received several promotions. He then returned to the General Electric plant in Schenectady and remained in their employ until death.

At the age of eight he united with the Frankfort United Brethren church and as he grew to manhood he became very active serving as Sunday school teacher, Christian Endeavor president and other responsible positions in the church.

In 1934 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Roberts of Schenectady, N.Y., and to this union was born one son, John Frederick, who together with the wife survives, as also do his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Palmer and one brother, Harmon D. Palmer of Frankfort.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Brethren church, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. H. W. White officiating. Burial in Green Lawn cemetary.
