Jacksonville, Fla. – Joseph Thomas Duck (Joe), died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at home. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. Duck was born and raised in Smithfield where many of his friends still remain. After 26 years of service in the U.S. Navy, Joe retired as BMCM and was presently employed as project coordinator with Atlantic Drydock in Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence H. Duck, Sr. He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Noriko; two sons, Joe Jr. and David Duck of Jacksonville; his mother, Belva Duck of Smithfield; three sisters, Belva Ann of North Carolina, Becky and Nancy; two brothers, Clarence Jr. and Mike, all of Virginia. He also leaves his cherished pet Chow, Goomb'e, of the home. Joe will be most fondly remembered for his love of life, fishing and the one that never got away. But above all, he is remembered for his love of home and family. Memorial services with military honors were held in Jacksonville. Mr. Duck will be buried at sea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Duck's memory to the American Legion or a favorite charity.
