Irene F. Verdier, 96, of 10058 South Mountain Road, South Mountain, died at 4:29 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in South Mountain Restoration Center. She had been in failing health for the past two years and critically ill for the past two days. Born Oct. 22,1903, in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late John and Amelia (Weber) Long. When she was 6 years old, she entered Quincy Orphanage where she lived until she was 18.
Mrs. Verdier graduated from Quincy High School with the Class of 1921.
She and her husband, Paul R. Verdier, were married in 1923. Following their marriage, they lived in Mont Alto. Mr. Verdier died on March 31, 1968. Mrs. Verdier was employed in the dietary department at the Pennsylvania Forestry School, presently Penn State Mont Alto. She later worked at the Waynesboro Shoe Factory. Mrs. Verdier is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Bumbaugh of Mont Alto and Suzanne Burcker of Hagerstown; one son, J. Calvin Verdier of Mont Alto; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren: and one nephew. She was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her husband and parent's, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas D. Verdier on Aug. 6, 1990, and two sisters, Blanche Brechbiel and Louella Long.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in. South Mountain Restoration Center, 10058 South Mountain Road, with the Revs. Richard Stuemple and Robert D. Flory and Father Joseph C. Carolin officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.
