Obituary
The Christian Advocate - 1893
TYLER.--Julia E. Tyler. died at the sanitarium in Geneva, New York on April 20, 1893, after a protracted illness. She was born at Nashua, New Hampshire, October 16, 1815; was early converted and maintained an active and consistent Christian life to the end. She was married to D. E. Tyler September 14, 1842, and resided with him, first in Berne, and afterward in Western New York, until his death at Albion, New York, in 1870. Afterward she made her home successively in Syracuse, Albion, and Rochester. The last year of her life was spent in the Geneva sanitarium. Having no children, she gave much time and thought to Christian and philanthropic work. Her piety was fervent, but unostentatious. She was social, genial, and sympathetic. She read widely and carefully, and was ready in conversation. She was a zealous member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and a close and constant reader of The Christian Advocate. Her beneficence was large for her means, and was widely exercised over a wide range of interests. She maintained for many years a scholarship in Syracuse University, and kept up acquaintance with the young men she aided after the close off their college courses. She was earnest in temperance work, laboring to reclaim victims of the drink habit, and giving generous financial help to the men she was trying to reform. Up to the close of her life she was active in both work and worship. The sanitarium became a field of Christian ministration to her for conversation and prayer with the sick, and for the relief of temporal wants when it was needed. The close of her life was peaceful and triumphant. She "fought a good fight," and "keep the faith."
