Likewise, she also led the Jazz Composer's Orchestra, along with Michael Mantler. Plus, Bley also started the JCOA record label which issued Bley's jazz opera "Escalator over the Hill" and Mantler's album "The Jazz Composer's Orchestra." Additionally, JCOA also issued recordings by Don Cherry, Roswell Rudd, and Clifford Thornton. Furthermore, she also collaborated with Charlie Haden, Nick Mason, Jack Bruce, and Robert Wyatt. Later, she won the the German Jazz Trophy "A Life for Jazz" and received the NEA Jazz Masters Award in 2009 and 2015, respectively. In 2020, her final album, "Life Goes On," was released. She died from brain cancer.
