Gretl Hauenstein, born May 11, 1976, died June 17, 2023. Gretl was diagnosed with cancer in January 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, Gary (Oscar) Hauenstein. and is survived by her mother, Marcia Merritt Hauenstein.

A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Gretl received her Masters in Early Childhood education from Mount St. Joseph University. She attended Fairfield City School District from Kindergarten thru 12th grade. She went on to be a teacher in Fairfield for over twenty years. Gretl's love of teaching was obvious, going above and beyond for her students.

Her infectious laugh, creativity and good heart made her a favorite of both students and staff. She will be greatly missed. An avid sports fan, she loved her home teams the Reds and Bengals. Gretl loved karaoke, trivia games, BUNCO, spending time with friends, and listening to her favorite music.

During the pandemic she kept busy teaching herself the keyboard and listening to her favorite music on the internet. She made countless, close friends across the country in Club Insomnia and The Royal Family. They referred to each other as "cousin" and helped each other remain sane during the pandemic thanks to the music.

Gretl continued to give back to the community by volunteering to be an organ donor. She has already given the gift of sight to two people.
