Meredith served in the U.S. Air Force where he received his GED. After serving, he went to work for Valeo-Sylvania in Seymour for ten years before retiring in 2022. He was a member of River of Life Church and the Seventh Day Adventist Church both in North Vernon. Meredith enjoyed metal detecting and listening to Bible stories.
Survivors include his sons, Jeremy Daniel Payne of North Vernon, Michael Curtis (Shana) Payne of South Carolina, and Jonathan Jackson of Seymour; brother, Mark S. (Tabitha) Payne of Seymour; sisters, Margaret Waggoner of North Vernon and Melody (Christopher Ballenger) Jones of Freetown; grandchildren, Rubi Rae Payne and Zachary Payne, both of North Vernon, Antonio Payne of Edinburgh, Nicholas Payne, Jasmine Payne, and Sage Payne, all of Seymour, and Timothy Payne and Brittany Payne, both of Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Hanna Payne, Joseph Payne, and Josiah Scott, all of Seymour.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Meredith Joseph Payne Jr.; and sister, Michelle L. Jones.
In keeping with the wishes of the family, cremation is planned with burial at a later date in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
