George Cathey, 89, of Dyersburg, died Friday, March 10, 2023 at his residence. Born July 24, 1933, he is the son of the late Major Montgomery and Lacy Rivers Cathey. He was the owner of George Cathey Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Mr. Cathey proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean era. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He served as Scout Master for Troop 88 for over 20 years.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2023 conducted by Reverend Loren Stephens in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Peyton Cathey, Parker Cathey, Pierce Cathey, Jacob Cathey and Larry Paul Cathey will be serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 14th beginning 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josephine Cathey; his daughter, Mary Lee Cathey Johnson of Dyersburg; his son, Larry Paul Cathey (Kim) of Bartlett; his daughter in law, Elizabeth Tidwell Cathey; four grandchildren, Peyton Cathey, Parker Cathey, Pierce Cathey and Jacob Cathey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, George Edward "Eddie" Cathey; six sisters, Laverne McRee, Lorene Seratt, Wynoma Weary, Johnnie Sue Vickers, Lou Etta Brown, Marie Spain; and three brothers, Edsel Cathey, Larry Cathey and Franklin Cathey.

The family requests memorials be directed to Southside Baptist Church.
