William "Captain Bill" Asbury, 89, passed from this life with his loving wife at his side on Monday, October 17, 2022, in Annapolis, Maryland, where he enjoyed nearly three decades of navigating the waters of his beloved Chesapeake Bay.

Born in Campbellsburg, Kentucky, on May 11, 1933, he attended the University of Kentucky and Florida Southern, graduating with a BSBA with honors, and was president of his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He settled in the Chicago area and raised two cherished sons.

He spent many years living in the Chicago area working for The Conference Board, and eventually found his love of sailing on Lake Michigan at the same time he met his sailing "first mate," his devoted wife, Penne. While still proudly calling himself a 100% Kentuckian, it was their shared love of sailing that inspired him to retire in Annapolis, Maryland, where he and his wife watched the seasons change on the shores of the Bay.

He is survived by his wife, Penne, his son, Beau (Marjie) of San Diego, California, and his grandson Brian Forrest of San Diego, California. He was preceded in death by his sister Anne, his brother Bradley, and his son, Scott, who are now welcoming him to his next adventure.

A Graveside Service will be on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Carrollton I.O.O.F. in Carrollton with the Rev. Steve Pace officiating the service. Military Graveside Honors will be presented by the Carrollton American Legion Post #41.

In lieu of flowers, Bill would have appreciated donations made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Fair winds and following seas, Captain Bill

The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
