Ernest M. Ferrell, Sr., 91 of Loudendale, died peacefully, Thursday, Jan 18, 2007 in Richmond, Va., at Parham Healthcare, surrounded by family.

He was born April 24, 1915 at Cane Fork and was the last surviving child of Martin E. and Maude Brackman Ferrell. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters; Nannie Goodwin, Florence Patrick, and infant sisters, Flora Evelyn and Nellie Maude; and brothers; George W., Ira E., David M., Carl E., Luther M. and Clarence O., and an infant brother.

He married Gladys Ellen Adams on October 22, 1935 and they raised a family of six children at Cane Fork.

He received his Mine Foreman's Certificate in 1966, and retired as a fire boss, having worked for Carbon Fuel on Cabin Creek for 35 years.

In 1977 he and his wife moved to Florida, spending their retirement years clearing the land in Florida for their home, gardening, fishing, and raising occasional livestock. They returned to Loudendale in 1990, where his wife of 60 years preceded him in death on June 30, 1995. Also predeceasing him was his son, Ernest Jr. on Jan 30 1969, and his son Kenneth E. on Feb 10, 1999, and an infant daughter in 1944, an infant grandson, Kenneth Jr. in 1958, and grandson Robert G. Sutherland, Sr. in 2005.

Surviving him are his daughters, Kathie M Parker, and her husband Ruben of Sandston, VA., Myrna J. Pennington and her husband Paul of Lakeland, FL. and Loudendale, Donna Shaffer and her husband Paul of Glen Allen, VA and son, Paul A.Ferrell and wife Fay of Zephyrhills, FL. 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7-9 pm. at Good Shepherd Mortuary on Monday, Jan 22, and 1 hour prior to the service, which will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan 23. Burial will follow in Orchard Hill Memory Gardens at Yawkey.

While flowers will be appreciated, memorial contributions may also be made to Loudendale Civic Improvement Association, at Rt. 2 Box 266B, Charleston, WV 25314.

Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will remember the rhymes he taught us, his tireless yard work, and those Ferrell blue eyes. We will love and remember him and our Mother forever.
