Anthropologist. He was one of the first Native American anthropologists, a Tewa from the Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico. He famously studied another Tewa Pueblo, Hano in Arizona, as well as conducting fieldwork in the Philippines. Among his many publications was Hano: A Tewa Indian Community in Arizona.
