Obituary
James Alvin Mahaffey Sr, 88, of Lancaster, SC, passed away on October 13, 2021 at his home.
He was a son of the late J. Paul Mahaffey and Leila Massey Mahaffey.
James was a lifelong resident of Lancaster, SC and was very involved in his community. Following his time in the US NAVY, he became the former co-owner of Mahaffey Funeral Home where he worked many years as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a former member of The South Carolina Funeral Directors Association. He was a life member of Hart Masonic Lodge, spent more than 50 years with American Legion Post 31, a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple, former president of the Jackson Shrine Club, former president of the Lancaster Booster Club, assisted the Lancaster Football Team, and was a member of the Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mahaffey was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela M. Grubbs, formally of Woodruff, SC.
James is survived by his wife, Martha Jo Mahaffey; son, James A. (Jamie) Mahaffey, Jr of Florida; daughter, Dr. Kem E. Mahaffey and her husband Michael of Inman, SC; son-in-law Doug Grubbs of Woodruff, SC; brother, Ralph G. Mahaffey and his wife Eva Ann of Lancaster, SC, and his sister, Doris M. Harris of Lancaster, SC. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 2:00pm, at A Simple Service Burial & Cremation, 201 N. Catawba St. Lancaster, SC, 29720. Interment will follow the service in Lancaster Memorial Park.
