Jeter was feral and came to us during the summer of 1997; the same time as El Duque, Molly, and Jack. They were a little family. El Duque was his dad, Molly was his mother, and Jack was his brother. Jack and Jeter were small kittens, just a few months old.

We noticed they would come to our yard as a family, stay awhile, then go away. Soon we realized they had been abandoned. Molly was friendly and so was Jack but El Duque and Jeter were skiddish, not sure of humans. So we started feeding them and that was that. They became ours and we still had Sassy at the time, too. Sassy stayed upstairs with us. The other 4 kitties roamed the yard during the day and slept in the garage/basement at night.

As colder weather began to set in we decided to lure them inside until spring. We had a large, clean basement and they were welcomed to winter there. So that's what we did. They didn't seem to mind because they had warm blankets, clean cat-boxes, yummy food and water.

When spring arrived we let them wander outside in the back yard and they never ran away. They knew they were safely home with us. Jeter developed a serious health problem and sadly died at just 1 or 2 years old. He was such a sweet boy and we buried him near the lilac tree in the yard. All these years later we still love and miss him.

And God asked the feline spirit

Are you ready to come home?

Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul

And, as a cat, you know I am most able

To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then asked God?

Soon, replied the whiskered angel

But I must come slowly

For my human friends are troubled

For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand asked God?

That you'll never leave them?

That your souls are intertwined for all eternity?

That nothing is created or destroyed?

It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,

Replied the glorious cat

For I will whisper into their hearts

That I am always with them

I just am....forever and ever and ever.
