Jack C. Smith, 73, died of heart failure Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at his home in Elkhart.

He was born Jan. 2, 1934, in Elk City, Okla., to Ed and Vera Ellis Smith. He lived in the Elk City area until he was 13. In 1947, the family moved to the community of Eva, Okla., where he lived until he finished high school. He graduated from Yarbrough School and attended Panhandle State University.

Mr. Smith volunteered to serve two years in the U.S. Army starting in 1956. He later worked as an agriculture equipment salesman and then moved to Elkhart in 2003 after retirement.

Survivors include a brother, Jerry Smith of Dallas; and a sister, Patsy Hicks of Ponca City, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Elkhart Church of Christ, with Shane Hanes officiating. A private family burial will take place at Resthaven-Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Ponca City.
