JOHN F. MURPHY

John F. Murphy 79, 39 Basset St, former owner of the Central Wine & Liquor Store on Union Street, died at home Thursday after a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Lynn, he had operated the store for 34 years until selling it two years ago upon retiring.

Murphy was an Army veteran of World War I and was a member of William P. Connery Jr. Post 6, American Legion and the Lynn Elks. He was a former member of the Oxford Club, Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce and Valladolid Council, Knights of Columbus.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Dorothy M. (Bailey) Murphy; four sisters, Mrs. Mary M. Quirk, wife of Dr. Thomas Quirk; Miss Catherine Murphy, retired supervisor of Lynn schools; Miss Theresa Murphy retired guidance director of Classical High, and Mrs. Sabina Fuller, all of Lynn, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Monday at 8 p.m. form the Garrett J. Wall Funeral Home, 103 Johnson St., followed by a Solemn Requiem Mass at 9 in St. Joseph's Church.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
