Dorothy joined the Hebron Baptist Church at the age of 8 years. After marriage, she joined the First United Methodist Church in Pilot Point. She served as secretary of the Pilot Point Methodist Church Sunday School for 25 years. Dorothy earned a B.S. and a M.S. Degree from North Texas University. Her first year of teaching (1946-1947) was at Chambersville School in Collin county. She was later employed as a science teacher for the Pilot Point High School for 29 years. After retiring in 1986, Dorothy enjoyed returning to farm life, serving, cooking, fishing, and her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Millard Edward "Butch" Ford and wife Andrea of Pilot Point and Jimmy Lynn Ford of Grandbury, TX; daughter, Sara Marie Inman and husband Doyle of Pilot Point; grandchildren, Angelia Marie Inman of Pilot Point, Sara Yvonne Tetmeyer and husband Jeff of Pilot Point, Millard Aaron Ford and wife Julie of Celina, Rachael Lynn Eckeberger and husband Blake of Bellevue, TX, Elizabeth Leigh Johnson and husband Kale of College Station, TX, Hannah Ruth Ford of Pilot Point, and John Edward Ford of Pilot Point; great-grandchildren, Joshua Peterson of Houston, TX, Jeremy Peterson of Pilot Point, Hannah Smith and husband Adam of Memphis, TN, Harmony Tetmeyer of Memphis, TN, MarRissa Marie Turnbow and husband Tyler of Edmond, OK, Joel Tetmeyer of Pilot Point, Lexi Ford of Celina, Aaron Ford II of Celina, Trip Ford of Celina, Tyler Ford and wife Katelynn of McKinney, TX, Madi Eckeberger, and Jacob Eckeberger; great-great-grandchild, Jaxon Turnbow; brother, Jackie Ray Mayfield of Rock Creek, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Myrtle; husband Edward; and sister, Karen Miller.
Visitation will be held 6:00PM-7:30PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Pilot Point, TX. A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Pilot Point, TX with Larry Kruger and Cloyce Purcell officiating. Interment will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery in Pilot Point, TX.
