James Celano, 69, Big Band Drummer
A Mass for James Celano, 69, of San Gabriel, Califonia, a retired musician, will be offered at 9 a.m. today in St. Ignatius of Loyola Church in San Gabriel.
He died Saturday in San Gabriel.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Mr. Celano Moved to California 28 years ago. He was a drummer with Red Nichols’ “Five Pennies”, and the Vincent Lopez and Paul Whiteman Orchestras until his retirement. He was a member of Musicians’ Local 16 and 802, Newark.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma, a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Andrews, three sons, Angelo, James Jr., and Robert; two sisters, Mrs. Elvira Vendemia and Mrs. Emily Bruno, a brother Fred, and eight grandchildren.
