General Military Hospital, No. 4, in Wilmington, North Carolina on August 30, 1862 with Febrid Typhoides. He was admitted to Pettigrew General Hospital No. 13 in Raleigh on December 27, 1864 for chronic Rheumatism and transferred on January 1, 1865.

The stone is stained and worn. A replacement marker was set at Beard's Chapel Cemetery as a memorial since this actual grave is on private land. However, it should be noted that this is where his remains lie in rest.
