John J. "Jack" Ackerman, age 80 years, of Monroe, MI, passed away November 12, 2006, at Tender Care of Monroe City of Monroe, MI. John was born February 10, 1926, in Monroe, MI to John F. Ackerman and Madeline (Anteau). He graduated from Monroe High School in 1944. On June 28, 1947, he married Betty Ruth Benedict at St. John Church in Monroe. John was a photographer for 9 years at Monroe Evening News then 30 years at the Toledo Blade, becoming an award winning photographer. He retired in 1993. John was also a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Corp from 1944-46. He was a member of Monroe Camera Club and past president and former member of St. John Church. John was an avid photographer, sportsman, and woodworker. John is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth Ackerman of Monroe; son, John F. (Suzanne) Ackerman of Ida; daughters, Carol Anne (Jim) Swisshelm of Liberty, Patricia L. (Ronald) Hearl of Ida, and Susan M. Ackerman of Monroe; sister, Mary Jane (John) Ruman of Monroe, and 8 grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Sr. Carolyn Ackerman, S.M.C.; brother, Robert Ackerman, and infant brother, Thomas. Services will be held Friday, November 17, 2006, at 7 p.m. at the Rupp Funeral Home, Inc. Monroe, MI, officiated by Rev. Jack Quialan of St. John Church. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 p.m. until time of Memorial Service. Interment at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
